Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz said Monday that he had instructed the occupation army to prepare for a “full-scale war” against the Palestinian Authority’s leadership, security forces, affiliated bodies, and what he described as “offensive infrastructure” in the occupied West Bank.
Katz said the instructions were intended to ensure that any confrontation would be “decisively” and rapidly concluded if the occupation determines that preparations are underway for an attack similar to the October 7 operation against Israeli occupation forces and settlements.
The Israeli minister also outlined what he described as the occupation’s policy in the West Bank, claiming it is based on what he described as “strongly pursuing Palestinian terrorism, developing and strengthening Jewish settlement, and maintaining security stability.”
The threats effectively place the Palestinian Authority and its security apparatus within the scope of a potential Israeli aggression, while Katz simultaneously reaffirmed settlement expansion as a central component of Israel’s policy in the occupied territory.
Katz’s comments followed an incident Monday morning in which an Israeli settler was seriously wounded in a stabbing operation near the Palestinian village of Osrin, southeast of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank.
Israel weighs security risks of settlement expansion
Katz’s threat comes as Israeli officials themselves have raised concerns over the ability of the occupation forces to protect newly established settlement outposts in the northern West Bank.
According to Haaretz, the Israeli occupation warned the political leadership that protecting the new outposts would be difficult because they lack the basic infrastructure required for their security.
The occupation army reportedly told the newspaper that the outposts were established in a negligent manner and were not based on security requirements, but rather on political considerations.
The warnings highlight a contradiction at the heart of “Israel’s” West Bank policy. While Israeli officials cite “security” as justification for intensified hostilities against Palestinians, the expansion of illegal settlements and outposts is itself contributing to growing tensions across the occupied territory.
Settlement expansion has remained a central feature of “Israel’s” policy in the West Bank, accompanied by increased military raids, restrictions, demolitions, and pressure on Palestinian communities.
Occupation forces warn of possible escalation
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli occupation officials have repeatedly warned during meetings of the possibility of a wave of Palestinian Resistance operations in the West Bank extending beyond the Green Line.
The outlet described the situation as increasingly complex despite what it characterized as a current atmosphere of calm.
“Israeli security officials say the army is deployed at full capacity and working day and night to prevent an imminent wave of operations from erupting, alongside rising tensions surrounding settlement outposts and international diplomatic pressure,” the report said.
The Israeli occupation’s warnings come against a backdrop of mounting tensions in the occupied West Bank, where Palestinian communities face continued military raids and settlement expansion.
Rather than addressing the underlying reality of occupation, Israeli officials continue to frame Palestinian opposition primarily through a security lens while expanding the very settlement project that fuels confrontation and further entrenches Israel’s control over Palestinian land.
