Russia and Arab League Agree to Expand Multifaceted Russian-Arab Cooperation

According to the Press Release following the meeting of the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the two sides have agreed to boost Russo-Arab cooperation on key regional and global issues.

On March 27, ahead of the Arab League summit Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov met with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on the Dead Sea venue in Jordan.

The meeting of the two diplomats included discussions about the current developments in the Middle East and North Africa, and the need to consolidate international efforts to facilitate overcoming of military and political crisis in a number of the regional countries. The two top diplomats, Mr. Bogdanov and Mr. Gheit emphasized the need to return to the principles of the UN Charter and the international law in combating and countering terrorism and extremism in the region and beyond.

Moreover, the meeting included discussions about the Palestine-Israel settlement prospects, in accordance with the pertinent UN Resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The meeting concluded with the agreement of both sides about the need to strengthen the interaction between Russia and the Arab League on the matters currently on the regional and the global agenda, and to expand on the existing Russian-Arab cooperation.
