UK Aviation Conducts Airstrikes on Daesh Oil Fields in Syria

The UK Royal Air Force began its second sortie on the targets of the Islamic State in Syria on Saturday, local media reported.

Two British Tornados warplanes fly over the RAF Akrotiri, a British air base near costal city of Limassol, Cyprus, Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, as they arrive from an airstrike against Islamic State group targets in Syria

According to the BBC, the jets, two Tornados and two Typhoons, were aiming at the group’s oil fields. The first UK strikes against the Islamic State (IS or Daesh in Arabic) positions in Syria were carried out Thursday, a day after the country’s lawmakers approved the military campaign.

The United Kingdom has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh positions in Iraq since September 2014, as part of a US-led international coalition against the terrorist group, which is prohibited in Russia.

Moscow has been carrying out a separate aerial campaign against the terrorist group in Syria since September 30, at the request of President Bashar Assad.
