“Armenia is trying to maintain the status quo by carrying out various armed provocations on the contact line”.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Herbert Salber.

Herbert Salber said they are closely following the ongoing processes in the region. Expressing concern over the situation on the contact line, the EU representative noted that the settlement of the conflict is needed more than ever before.

Herbert Salber also said that the structure he represents intends to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan and contribute to the resolution of conflicts in the region.

The head of state in turn said Azerbaijan is the most interested side in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the negotiations over it, noting that some 20 percent territories of Azerbaijan have long been under occupation and steps taken so far have not yielded any result.

President Ilham Aliyev outlined that Armenia is creating obstacles against initiatives suggested in the negotiations and trying to maintain the status quo by carrying out various armed provocations on the contact line. The head of state also noted his regret that the European Union does not demonstrate a concrete position with regard to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The sides also exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.
