Al-Makahleh: Let us stand united

Dr. Shehab Al-Makahleh

In the midst of a nation grappling with challenges, there are voices that echo with lamentation and concern for Jordan because of regional turmoil. These voices, borne from genuine love for the land and its people, have emerged, urging Jordanians to be vigilant and safeguard their country. They invoke imagery from our local heritage, recalling the tale of “Khalaf” in the battalion, who was always called upon in times of need, highlighting the importance of continuity and preparedness.

The recent protests in Amman by the Israeli embassy have stirred the weakest faith among anarchists. This unity of purpose, shared by brothers and sisters in blood, belief, and geography, is a testament to the goodness and sincerity of the Jordanian people. These expressions of solidarity with the people of Gaza should not be misconstrued as heresy or a departure from state authority. Similar calls for peace and an end to bloodshed can be found even in Israel, demonstrating the worldwide desire for resolution.

It is crucial to remember that the Jordanian people have a long-standing tradition of coming to the aid of those in need, responding swiftly to the calls of their brothers and neighbors. This is not a new phenomenon but rather a reflection of their inherent values. Yet, it is disheartening to witness that the generosity and sacrifices made by Jordan towards some brethren are underappreciated by anarchists. Jordan’s unwavering support and assistance, which often comes at the expense of its own citizens, is met with criticism and ingratitude. Our bread is consumed, but our efforts are disregarded as our proverb says: “Our barely is eaten yet reprehensible.”

The Jordanian people have extended their hand offering their resources and support to alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers and sisters. However, it is essential for the international community to recognize and acknowledge Jordan’s contributions. The nation’s giving and assistance should not be taken for granted or dismissed lightly.

In the face of such circumstances, we must remain steadfast. We should not allow the lack of appreciation by a few to dampen our spirit of compassion and commitment. The Jordanians, true companions in times of adversity, must continue to advocate for justice, peace, and the well-being of all. Our actions should be guided by the knowledge that our sacrifices are not in vain, and that the true measure of our efforts lies in the positive impact we have on the lives of others.

Jordan has a longstanding history of aid and support to Palestine, particularly Gaza. The nation has played a significant role in humanitarian efforts, aiming to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and contribute to their well-being. Jordan’s commitment to Palestine is deeply rooted in its historical, cultural, and geographic ties. The country shares borders with the West Bank and has a large population of Palestinian refugees and descendants.

In addition to offering humanitarian aid, Jordan has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It has consistently advocated for a just and lasting peace, supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Jordan has also emphasized the importance of respecting international law, including UN resolutions, in achieving a comprehensive and equitable solution.

Despite the significant contributions made by Jordan, its efforts are often met with criticism and ingratitude. Some individuals fail to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the Jordanian people and the resources expended to support the Palestinian cause. This lack of appreciation can be disheartening for a nation that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to solidarity and support.

However, it is important to recognize that the spirit of generosity and compassion is deeply ingrained in the Jordanian people. The nation’s commitment to helping others, even at the expense of its own citizens, stems from a sense of shared humanity and a belief in the importance of standing up for what is just and right.

Jordan’s dedication to Palestine is not limited to government initiatives alone. Civil society organizations, grassroots movements, and individual Jordanians actively contribute to humanitarian efforts and raise awareness about the challenges faced by Palestinians. They organize fundraisers, volunteer their time and skills, and use their voices to advocate for justice and peace.

As the world continues to grapple with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its humanitarian consequences, it is crucial to recognize the contributions of nations like Jordan. Appreciating their sacrifices and support can foster greater understanding, cooperation, and collaboration among nations striving for a peaceful resolution. Jordan’s unwavering commitment to Palestine and Gaza serves as an inspiration for others to follow suit and work towards a just and lasting peace in the region.

Let us stand united, proud of Jordan’s legacy of support and resilience. Our commitment to Palestine, Gaza, and the pursuit of peace remains unwavering. Together, let us strive to create a world where gratitude and understanding prevail, and where the sacrifices made by nations like Jordan are recognized and celebrated. Jordan’s assistance and sacrifices towards Palestine, particularly Gaza, are significant and deserve appreciation. The nation’s commitment to humanitarian efforts and its advocacy for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are rooted in its historical ties and shared values. Despite the lack of recognition at times, the Jordanian people continue to demonstrate unwavering support, embodying the spirit of compassion and solidarity
