The Unfolding Aftermath of Gaza

Eng. Saleem Al Batayneh

Amidst the gloom and the pervasive sense of conspiracy theories that permeate our thoughts and surroundings, a crucial question lingers: What awaits us in the aftermath of the Gaza tragedy? Despite the weightiness of the current atmosphere, it is imperative to address this concern to fathom the forthcoming changes and events. Sooner or later, the echoes of war will fade, cameras will retreat, and the truth will emerge, only to swiftly vanish beneath the tumult of unfolding events.

The question arises: What surprises and secrets does the New Year conceal for us after the harrowing events in Gaza? It is only natural for hopes and expectations to wane in the aftermath of such devastation. The trajectory of events indicates a challenging new year for many countries in the region. The term “Middle East” takes on multifaceted meanings, as a war of extermination persists against humanity, targeting even unborn children. Who could have envisioned such brutality without significant Arab or international outcry?

As the new year unfolds, Gaza transforms from a mere location undergoing genocide or ethnic cleansing to a situation with enduring consequences. The impact will extend beyond the present, and the inability of the Arab states to play a strategic role will persist. The geopolitical landscape is poised for change, and the outcomes of the war will remain the focal point for an uncertain period.

The aftermath will transcend the Middle East, leaving an indelible mark on the world map—geopolitically, geostrategically, and geoeconomically—similar to the aftermath of September 11, 2001. Turmoil will continue to characterize the region, with most countries preoccupied with internal concerns, discontent, and transformations, allowing Israel to assert its policies on the ground.

A recent report from the French news site Mond Africe predicts a period of significant transformation and unprecedented political changes in the Arab region and its regimes after the war. The lingering anxiety stems from the current political and strategic vacuum in the region.

What stands out in the report is the awakening of Arab peoples, united in their concerns and slogans. The report warns of the potential return of Islamization in Arab societies, highlighting an unnoticed crisis in the Arab street that may trigger a new wave akin to the Arab Spring.

While the region grapples with internal turmoil, Israel advances its plans with apparent disregard for international opinion. Post-Gaza War, two Israeli Knesset members proposed a draft law to displace Gazans to any willing country, offering financial incentives for both the displaced individuals and the host nation.

Recent revelations by Israeli researcher Amir Whitman indicate premeditated plans for the resettlement of Gazans in Egypt, backed by financial support. The exposure of such schemes underscores a shift in public perception, rendering past manipulations ineffective. History reveals that conspiracies have long played a role in shaping the Arab world’s destiny, from oppression to humiliation. It is time to confront these realities and strive for a future free from such machinations.
